R-PET is the granule resulting from the recycling process of PET bottles. PET bottles are gathered from various sources like household recycling collection and from business and manufacturing waste Recycling plants .then it is sorted through the materials – separating the PET plastics from other non-recyclable compounds and removing any contaminants before processing. The purified PET is shredded into grains of plastics that can be left as they are or heated and pressed into pellets for sale to companies looking to use RPET for future packaging.
Due to the advances in recycling technology, this product provides manufacturers and consumers with preform and bottles with similar performance standards to first-hand bottles and preforms. Converting PET bottles and containers into a valuable resource such as R-PET helps the environment because R-PET has a lower carbon footprint than virgin PET. It also reduces demand for virgin PET, which requires more energy and water to produce.
The latest scientific research found that there was no evidence to suggest that recycled polyester is toxic or causes harm to human health. Under EU rules, from 2021 to 2025, manufacturers of preform and PET bottles are required to use 25% of R-PET in their products.
